About

A native of Pittsburgh, Russell Weismann is the Director of Chapel Music and University Organist at Georgetown University. His prior positions include serving as Associate Music Director at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception and as University Chapel Organist at Yale.

Russell holds the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from George Mason University, where his dissertation research explored the North American influence of the German organ builder, Rudolf von Beckerath. Russell also completed a Master of Music degree from Yale University and the Bachelor of Music degree from Duquesne University. His primary organ instructors were John Walker, Martin Jean, and Ann Labounsky.

In addition to Russell’s work at Georgetown, he is the Director of the Capital Organ Studio, a multi-faceted organ instruction enterprise in Washington, D.C., and Artistic Director of Music at the Monastery, a community outreach collaboration between the District of Columbia Chapter of the American Guild of Organists and the Franciscan Monastery of the Holy Land in America.

A recipient of the Associate certificate of the American Guild of Organists, Russell is past-Dean of the District of Columbia Chapter of the Guild and a regular guest organist at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
